Konadu, Boadu thoughts after Legon Cities goalless draw with Hearts

Accra Hearts of Oak didn’t get the start they were hoping for as defending league champions following their 0-0 draw with Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The result means Hearts for a second successive season have not won their opening match.

Coach Samuel Boadu who is keen on defending the league title bemoaned the team’s sharpness in attack.

“We had a problem with our attacking side because we created a lot of chances and we should have scored at least one goal. But we squandered all the chances. We still have more to work on them,” he said

“It was a good game and Legon Cities were well-prepared. Everyone’s target will be on Hearts of Oak but we will never give up. We know we will progress match after match.” Boadu added

For Legon Cities it will definitely be a good result especially for coach Maxwell Konadu who went into the game to protect his fine record of not losing to Hearts.

According to the former Asante Kotoko manager, their game plan worked.

“We came with a game plan. Though not perfect, we were able to hold them, trying to frustrate them with our combination passes and to some extent, it worked,” he said.

“We saw that they decided to go long. That is where we started picking up the second balls and we played our game.

“We made some elementary mistakes because playing from the back was a bit difficult. We will go on to work on it and make sure we do it better next time.”

Hearts will be away to Sogakope to face WAFA whiles Legon Cities will face Real Tamale United at home in their next league games next weekend.
