Kurt Okraku re-elected as Ghana FA president

Simeon-Okraku stood unopposed, but the one hundred and twenty (120) delegates present voted to retain him as head of Ghana football's governing body

Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has been re-elected as president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during the elective congress in Tamale in the Northern Region.

Simeon-Okraku stood unopposed, but the one hundred and twenty (120) delegates present voted to retain him as head of Ghana football’s governing body.

He polled 117 votes (representing 97.5%) of the total votes cast with two delegates voting against his retention as one other delegate abstained.

He first came to office in October 2019.

Ahead of the election, Simeon-Okraku’s main contender George Afriyie was disqualified for allegedly breaching football regulations.

Football club King Faisal has also filed a suit against the election that is expected to be heard on 12 October. Additionally, Afriyie filed an injunction in court and petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being disqualified from the presidential race.

Despite these legal challenges, the GFA proceeded with the elections, with President Okraku receiving an overwhelming endorsement from delegates.
