Lucy Quist is Vlisco’s brand ambassador for 2022

The African-inspired fabric house Vlisco Ghana has unveiled Lucy Quist, a former telco chief executive, as its 2022 brand ambassador at a ceremony in Accra.

The unveiling of Lucy Quist forms part of Vlisco’s brand tradition of selecting influential women who have broken down barriers to inspire younger generations.

The tradition began with Dr Ellen Maame Hagan in 2013 as Vlisco’s first ever brand ambassador.

Delivering a speech after her unveiling, Quist thanked all past ambassadors for paving the way and putting in so much work into empowering women.

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to stand in this position,” she said. “We as women play much greater roles than we may not know.

“I thank you all for being here [and] for the amazing work you do as women.”

Quist described Vlisco as a timeless brand which represents dreams, hopes and aspirations for the future, hence a great opportunity to connect and empower many women.

“For me, this is to reach out to women across the country to provide mentorship to women both young and old,” she said, “whether they are studying, whether they are businesswomen  and, very importantly, to the women who work for the [Vlisco/GTP/Woodin] company.

“I know that through this opportunity I will also have the chance to learn from these women and collectively we will move forward,” the new Vlisco ambassador said.

“I have to add that this is a very important time for us as a country. This is the time for the bold new normal.”

The group managing director for Vlisco Ghana, Fatoumata Doro, said she has no doubt that Quist will excel in her endeavour to project the name of the company and empower more women to become chief executives, managing directors and social leaders of the future.
