Mahama is desperate to be president again, says Ahiagbah
The NPP communications director says John Mahama is attempting to win the election in December to get rid of the tag of being a one-term president
The communications director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says John Dramani Mahama’s decision to make a comeback as Ghana’s president stems from desperation.
Ahiagbah believes Mahama is bereft of ideas and cannot come up with any solutions to enhance Ghana’s socio-economic growth, hence his rejection by Ghanaian voters in the 2016 elections.
Speaking to Wilberforce Asare in an exclusive interview aired on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (18 September), Ahiagbah said Mahama’s attempt to win the presidential election in December is to erase the tag of being a one-term president.
“Well, you know this is unprecedented, the situation we have in our country. An individual [Mahama] having been dislodged massively by the citizens in a manner that cannot be equivocated is a clear, complete rejection of a president,” he said.
“It’s never happened in our history before. And so, if that same individual wants to reclaim power, it suggests to you the level of desperation.”
Ahiagbah added: “And I think that we need to pause there and examine possibly what a John Mahama presidency [would] mean for this country.
“It’s a dangerous proposition that we shouldn’t play with for the young people out there who may not remember anything about his presidency.”
