Many Ghanaian artists have denied me collaborations, says Blakk Rasta

According to the Kuchoko musician, music fans barely see collaborations these days because the Ghanaian music industry lacks unity

Ghanaian reggae musician and broadcaster, Abubakar Ahmed, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, has claimed that his fellow musicians have repeatedly turned down his requests for collaboration.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Yard Settingz on Sunday 11 June, Black Rasta urged musicians to stop underestimating their counterparts.

”I think a lot of it is just selfishness. We don’t trust each other. It is a very sad thing that each one is for himself and nobody is actually helping anybody,” he told King Lagazee.

“And you know the quality of songs I produce. Recently, I was trying to get one or two artists to collaborate with me, and you will be surprised by what some of them said,” Blakk Rasta lamented.

He said every time he sends a song to any artist for a collaboration, he doesn’t get feedback.

“They will say, ‘Oh legend, send me the song. It’s a vibe; the song is a real vibe,’ and then I don’t hear from them again.

“I have never been a collaboration kind of artist, I have had the opportunity to feature a lot of great artists, but it wasn’t my thing. People over-estimate themselves; one man thinks his voice on your record will be that game changer.

“Where there is ego, people cannot come together. Until we drop that ego, nothing is going to work,” he said.
