NDC will soon be in court, says Inusah Fuseini
John Mahama, flagbearer of the NDC says the party will take all legitimate steps available to reverse what he describes as “a flawed election"
Inusah Fuseini, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will soon be in court to seek to overturn the 7 December election results in its favour.
“Sooner or later NDC would be in court,” Fuseini said.
“Well, we have proof. Clearly, the NDC is collating the evidence and we want to present an iron-clad case in court and the evidence that we will provide to the court will be unassailable. These are early days yet. We are working within the mandate of the law or the provision of the law which requires that you go to court within a certain time,” he told Beatrice Adu on the Big Bulletin on Asaase Radio.
John Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the party will take all legitimate steps available to reverse what he describes as “a flawed election”.
Addressing a news conference at the NDC headquarters on Thursday night, Mahama said the party will not accept the results of the elections.
“I urge you all to keep your confidence in Ghana and keep betting on the success of our democracy. This is a test of our ability within this democratic system to rise to the occasion and seek redress to write all wrongs to seek justice and to make every vote count and to respect the sovereign will of the people,” he said.
Mahama added: “And let us not fail this test, let history look back and be proud of how we united and stood up to fight for the fundamental right to freely elect their leaders devoid of crude political manipulation, and it is for this reason that my colleagues and I in the NDC will not accept what we know to be a fraudulent outcome of this elections and we will take all legitimate steps to reverse this travesty of justice.”
He assured the electorates that the party will beef up support in the constituencies that are being contested to address the anomalies.
Time constraints
Fuseini said the NDC is mindful of time limitation with regards to the filing of its case in court and would do that in confines of the law.
He said, “Well, the party will do that [go to court] within the confines of the law within the time frame provided by law and so we are mindful of the fact that if we don’t take action before the expiration of the time-limited by law to go to court, we will be out of time so we will do that within the ambit of the law…
“When you go to court to show that the elections could not have been the manifestation of the will of the people, you will have to demonstrate the Electoral Commission did not or could not have said to have carried out their functions in a way that manifested or reflected the will of the people and in doing so if that could be interpreted to mean impugning the integrity of the Commission so be it,” Inusah Fuseini said.
He added, “We have to demonstrate that if the EC were minded to carry out its mandate in a fair, impartial and neutral manner the results could not have been declared what was declared.”
