Rain cuts off four communities from Adaklu District and Ho

River Da in the Kodzobi electoral area overflowed its banks following hours of torrential rainfall in the Adaklu District.

Ghana News Agency (Adaklu Kodzobi) – Four communities in the Kodzobi electoral area in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region have been cut off from the rest of the district and Ho after several hours of torrential rainfall, causing a flood in the area.

The four communities are Adaklu Kodzobi, Vodze, Have and Adaklu Dzakpo.

Vehicles could not move to the four communities as the floodwaters spilt over the bridge on to the main road.

Several acres of food crops were also destroyed by the flood.

Togbe Dzegblade IV, chief of Adaklu Kodzobi, speaking to the Ghana News Agency said he pleaded with the Department of Urban Roads and the contractor that River Da be dredged at the inception of the project but his plea was not heeded to.

“My request to have the bridge reconstructed and the river dredged had not received the needed response,” he said.

Togbe Dzegblade said the flood, which occurred on a market day, affected mostly women returning from the market.

He said these women had to stay on the other side until late in the night for the rain to stop and the floodwater to recede before they could cross over.

Togbe Dzegblade, therefore, appealed to the Department of Urban Roads to come to their aid and construct a new bridge for the community.

He also appealed for work to resume on the Ho-Kodzobi-Have road which was abandoned several years ago.

Felicity Ahafianyo, acting head of the Central Analysis and Forecasting Office at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview, that the rainy season in the southern part of the country was currently at its peak and this means that there would be frequent rainfall.

She said more rain is expected in the coming weeks and that people should avoid taking unnecessary risks during the season.
