NGIC will drive reset of Ghana’s economy, says Ursula Owusu-Ekuful

NGIC is a consortium formed between the government and seven partners that aims to deliver affordable 5G mobile broadband services nationwide and propel the nation towards full digitisation by 2030

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced that the new shared infrastructure company Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (Next-Gen InfraCo/NGIC) will drive a reset of Ghana’s economy.

NGIC, a consortium formed between the government and seven partners, aims to deliver affordable 5G mobile broadband services nationwide and propel the nation towards full digitisation by 2030.

According to Owusu-Ekuful, NGIC will attract investment across all sectors, provide access to e-services and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians.

“NGIC will enable a reset of Ghana’s economy by attracting investments across all sectors and providing access to all manner of e-services, and improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians by ensuring that everyone, regardless of their location, has access to the latest digital services,” she said.

Owusu-Ekuful further said that the government has learned from past experience and implemented policies to ensure equal access to public and private digital services, regardless of service provider, as the ministry aims to ensure equal access to internet connectivity across Ghana.

“As the government rolls out its digital agenda, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation aims to ensure equal access to internet connectivity throughout the country,” the minister said.

“Learning from previous experiences, where only one MNO [mobile network operator] had the means to acquire the 4G spectrum, the government has implemented policies to ensure every communications user has equal access to public and private digital services, regardless of their service provider.”
