Nick Danso Adjei donates GHC500,000 towards construction of kidney dialysis centre in Bono-Ahafo

Dr Nick Danso Adjei made the donation for a kidney care centre in response to calls from COOBAANA, an association in the diaspora which birthed the idea

Dr Nick Danso Adjei, the chief executive officer of the Ejura-based Naagyei FM and chairman of Ghana Link Network Services, implementer of the Integrated Customs Management Systems (ICUMS), has donated GHC500,000 towards the building of a kidney dialysis centre in the Bono-Ahafo Region in line with his organisation’s corporate social responsibility.

The donation was made in response to a call by “COOBAANA” a Ghanaian association in the diaspora which initiated the idea of raising funds for construction of the unit.

Addressing guests in his capacity as chairman for the occasion at the launch of the Ghana fundraising drive for the centre, he applauded members of the COOBAANA association for their brilliant initiative and explained why he felt touched by their call.

The launch took place on 28 May 2023 at the Tyco City Hotel in Sunyani, with the aim of soliciting funds to kick-start the dialysis project.

In his remarks, Dr  Danso Adjei recounted how kidney failure caused the death of his own mother, as well as his business partner, an expert in information technology with whose technical support and expertise he succeeded in establishing his mother company, Ghana Link.

“I was highly touched by the call from the association because my late mum … (everyone knows how dear she was to me) died of kidney problems.

“As I speak, my IT expert, Austin Addo, by whose technical support we were able to establish Ghana Link here in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, has died as a result of kidney failure and the body is being preserved at the mortuary, pending his burial.

“At the back of this bitter experience, I could not turn my back on this call, since I deem it an opportunity to save many lives [otherwise] waiting to perish by kidney issues.

“Therefore, after a brief engagement with my board of directors, the company decided to donate GHC500,000 as seed capital to kick-start the project,” Dr Danso Adjei said.

“We are committed to see to it that the project gets to completion by way of adding additional funds, lobbying the government to provide the needed help and linking up with our international partners to get the required facilities to furnish the unit to serve the intended purpose,” he said.

Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II, Dormaahene, and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President of the Republic, who were special guests at the ceremony, also contributed huge sums of money towards the project.
