No bed syndrome: Seven-month-old dies after alleged rejection at KATH

Authorities at the hospital, however, say there is no record of a referral from the Asokwa Children’s Hospital

A seven-month-old baby has lost her life after allegedly being rejected over lack of space at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region.

The baby is said to have been referred from the Asokwa Children’s Hospital where she was receiving medical attention.

Kwame Frimpong, the public relations officer of KATH, says although the facility has not recorded such referral from the Asokwa Children’s Hospital, authorities have begun an investigation to bring finality to the matter.

“We also heard about this allegation and when we cross-checked with our paediatric emergency unit, the feedback was that they don’t have any evidence of the Asokwa Children’s Hospital calling the unit to arrange for a referral.”

“So our quality assurance unit has been asked to engage all the parties involved including the bereaved family so that they will establish the circumstances under which the incident occurred,” he said.
