North East Region: Plan International supports flood victims with relief items

Plan International Ghana, a humanitarian non-profit organisation has presented some relief items to flood victims at Zanguwa in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.

The heavy rain destroyed several farmlands, residential structures, livestock and some major roads in the area.

After the devastation, Plan International visited the community on Wednesday (8 November 2023) to support 127 households with relief items to alleviate the suffering they went through after the havoc.

The items include 43 bags of 25kg of rice, 17 bags of sugar, 62 packs of baby diapers, 17 bags of corn flour, 90 bags of Tombrown, eight bags of beans, 155 mosquito nets, 136 mosquito repellents, 30 bags of gari, 12 bags of salt, 17 boxes of tin tomato paste, 31 boxes of key soap, 33 boxes of disposable sanitary pads, 37 pieces of edible oil, 24 boxes of powder mink, 20 washing powder, 425 bags of sachet water, five aqua tabs, and 15 packs of dried fish.

The total cost is estimated at GHC143,000.

The Northern Regional programme coordinator of Plan International Ghana, Kamaldeen Iddrisu Yazeed said, “Plan [Ghana] worked with NADMO to provide these relief items to be able to support the families who were hit by the disaster.”

Kamaldeen, who was unhappy about their inability to get to the community due to the poor state of the road, appealed to the government to build the road that leads to the community.

“Specifically, we wanted to do the distribution right at the Zanguwa community but as most of us have seen here, because of the bad road network problem, the car has been stuck here and that is the reason why we are doing the distribution right here in the middle of the community. We are appealing to state institutions to also support them by trying to construct the road,” Kamaldeen appealed.

The North East Regional NADMO director, Alhassan John Kweku, thanked Plan International for their unwavering support to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims in the region.
