Northern Region: Pay journalists deserving salaries, says GJA chairman

The regional chairman further solicited incentives for journalists in the regions, indicating that such will motivate them to carry out their duties

The Northern regional chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, has appealed to the government and owners of media houses to pay journalists deserving salaries.

He urged media houses to lobby for the provision of tools and equipment necessary to ease the work of journalists.

Abdul-Majeed further solicited incentives for journalists in the regions, indicating that such will motivate them to carry out their duties.

The regional chairman made the appeal at a socialisation and dinner ceremony organised by the Northern regional branch of association in Tamale. Journalists, media practitioners, representatives of non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies and state institutions in the Northern Region attended the event.

Abdul-Majeed bemoaned the frequent attacks on journalists in the region and all over the country.

He pledged the support of the regional executives of the association to defend journalists in the region, saying, “Whoever attempts to attack or attacks any journalist in the region will be made to face the full rigours of the law.”
