NPP polls: Decision to exclude TESCON from voting unfortunate, says Gabby

Roughly 291 TESCON members were barred from casting their vote at the NPP delegates’ congress at the Accra Sports Stadium following an injunction

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a political strategist and prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says he is disappointed that members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy (TESCON) were not allowed to vote at the party’s national annual delegates’ congress on Saturday (16 July 2022).

He described the development as unfortunate.

Roughly 291 TESCON members were  barred from casting their vote at the Accra Sports Stadium following an injunction.

The chairman of the NPP’s national elections committee, Peter Mac Manu, made an announcement to this effect at the Accra Sports Stadium shortly before voting started, adding that the party had received the injunction on the evening of Friday 15 July.

Speaking to Asaase 99.5 Accra on the sidelines of the conference on Saturday (16 July 2022), Otchere-Darko said: “I think that it is very unfortunate that the intellectual hub of the party [TESCON] is not allowed to vote.”

Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, also kicked against the injunction.

“I’m against the injunction on TESCON members,” the vociferous lawmaker said. “I’m very disappointed. My question is, the one who put the injunction on them, assuming he wins, is he prepared to work with the TESCON people?”
