Olam Food Ingredients Ghana Limited (OFI Ghana), a prominent player in Ghana’s cocoa and cashew industry, has demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility by donating GHC300,000 to the Heal Komfo Anokye Project.
This initiative, spearheaded by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, aims to raise US$10 million for the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, a vital healthcare facility serving patients from 12 regions.
Led by Kwabena Owusu Ababio, head of Stakeholder Relations at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, OFI Ghana representatives, including the Vice-President Jonathan Quainoo, presented the donation to Professor Addai-Mensah, the CEO of KATH.
The company praised the initiative and affirmed its ongoing commitment to supporting developmental projects in the regions where it operates.
He highlighted OFI Ghana’s dedication to building a sustainable cocoa sector and contributing positively to the communities in which they operate. The donation to the Heal Komfo Anokye Project aligns with their broader corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“We have to respond to the call of the King and as a company we work in the Eastern, Bono and Ashanti Regions and most of our referrals are made at KATH and that is why we are motivated to make this donation… It is very important we all heed the call and support this initiative”, Quainoo said.
CEO of the hospital Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah expressed gratitude for the generous contribution, emphasizing the significant impact it would have on making the renovation project a reality. He urged other well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations to follow OFI Ghana’s example and contribute to this crucial healthcare initiative.
The Heal Komfo Anokye Project, launched by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on November 10, 2023, seeks to address the pressing need for the renovation of the 70-year-old in-patient wards at KATH.
The project’s public fundraising drive aims to secure funds for essential upgrades to the hospital, a major referral facility in the Ashanti region catering to patients from 12 out of the country’s 16 regions.
The renovation project is part of the legacy projects marking the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Asantehene’s enstoolment next year.
