Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transport has called on players within the transport and logistics sector to create a holistic and strategic response for an enhanced transport connectivity that goes beyond the traditional solutions.

Speaking at the 25th “Intermodal Africa 2021 Conference and Exhibition” organised by the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) and the Meridian Ports Services (MPS) limited, Asiamah stated that a collaborative method in creating a resilient system to solve travel congestions in the ports must be a top priority for industry players.

“Developing a holistic and strategic response for enhanced transport connectivity, is a necessary requirement that goes beyond the traditional solutions by integrating low emissions and introduce green transport solutions within an over reaching approach,” he stated.

According to him, due to the congestion and backlog at the various ports as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the transport sector must find ways to use technology to improve the movement of cargo and also enrich the experience of customers.

“A lot of ports are facing severe congestion and backlog as a result of the imbalance and infertility of the novel COVID-19. Therefore, improving cargo movement through a resilient logistics and supply chain sector, whiles enriching customer experience and shipping next generation port industry through technology and automation is the way to go,” he added.
