Okaikwei North NDC in disarray as Ama Dokua empowers women
Asiamah-Adjei has recently garnered significant attention in the constituency by supporting over 100 market women and 50 food vendors, a move that has resonated deeply with the local community
Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Okaikwei North are raising alarms over internal divisions that could jeopardise the party’s electoral prospects, particularly as the parliamentary candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, gains popularity with her empowerment initiatives.
Asiamah-Adjei has recently garnered significant attention in the constituency by supporting over 100 market women and 50 food vendors, a move that has resonated deeply with the local community.
Her efforts to empower women in their trades and businesses have made her a formidable contender in the upcoming parliamentary race, stirring concern within the NDC ranks.
The opposition NDC, fearing the impact of Asiamah-Adjei’s growing influence, is facing increasing pressure from its supporters to resolve internal conflicts that threaten party unity. The tensions have become so palpable that some NDC supporters are warning of a potential “skirt and blouse” voting pattern, where voters might split their ballots between different parties for the parliamentary and presidential races, undermining the NDC’s chances of securing the seat.
In a viral audio clip circulating within NDC circles, a female supporter from the Akweteyman township voices her frustration with the infighting.
“The internal wrangling will not help us. A lot is happening at Achimota which does not augur well for the party. The infighting must stop in our stronghold and such spectacle is not good for us,” she said, referring to NDC strongholds where tensions are high.
She also touched on the NPP’s growing influence in the constituency, particularly through Asiamah-Adjei’s initiatives.
“Come to Achimota Market, the NPP is empowering entrepreneurs and giving them goodies in the market. If care is not taken, NDC people will vote skirt and blouse. Why should we start fighting in an election year? The internal wrangling should end at Achimota and Akweteyman,” she added, urging party leaders to address the discontent.
