One dies, scores displaced in Asafo fire

The fire outbreak left several tenants of a two-storey building homeless as firefighters investigate the cause of the incident

A man has been confirmed dead after fire ravaged a two-storey building at Asafo YF in the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitnesses told Asaase News that the fire started during the wee hours of Thursday forcing the tenants to flee for safety.

Firefighters deployed to the scene had a tough time battling the blaze due to lack of hydrants. Preliminary investigation reveals that an unattended to electric water heater may have caused the incident.

The charred body of Kwadwo Fodjour, 56, has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have begun assessing the extent of damage. NADMO also plans to send relief items to the displaced tenants.
