Otito Achuliwor vows to take back Navrongo Central seat from NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) won both the parliamentary and presidential elections in the constituency by an overwhelming margin in the 2020 polls

A stalwart of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otito Abdallah Achuliwor, has served notice that he will contest for the Navrongo Central parliamentary seat in the Upper East Region.

He has therefore called on the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP Sampson Tangombu Chiragia to brace up for a humiliating defeat in 2024.

The National Democratic Congress won both the parliamentary and presidential elections in the constituency by an overwhelming margin in the 2020 polls.

Chiragia defeated Tangoba Abayage of the NPP – a victory that was largely attributed to deep cracks within the governing party then.

Achuliwor said the defeat was due to the visible disunity among members of the party in the constituency.

“Yes, the NPP lost by a large margin and it was not good but like I have always preached for peace and unity, it was the lack of unity in the party that caused our defeat to the NDC,” he told Pure FM,

Achuliwor said the NPP in Navrongo this time around needs to front a neutral and experienced candidate to brighten its chances in election 2024.

He stated that the party also needs a candidate who will give better representation to the constituents in Parliament, adding he stood tall among all viable candidates.

“I have made up my mind to contest the party primaries,” he said. “I have made my intentions clear to all the party executives in the constituency. They have also assured me of their support when nominations are opened. I have over the years supported the party in various ways. I supported the late Kofi Adda and I supported Tangoba Abayage too during their campaigns.”

“But my focus is not on the primaries. I’m rather focused on election 2024. It is Sampson and the NDC that I want to retire. The number of years they have stayed on the seat is enough.”

Binding factor

On addressing the division in the party, the executive director of the Ghana Libya Arab Holding Company Limited (GLAHCO) said his neutrality in dealing with the different camps, gives him the ability to mend the cracks to build a formidable team for the NPP ahead of election 2024.

He said reuniting the different camps in the constituency will be his first and major assignment once he successfully goes through the primaries.

Ahead of the primaries, Achuliwor is calling on members of the NPP to put the past behind and forge together in unity to cause a victorious comeback for the New Patriotic Party in the Navrongo Central constituency.
