Patricia Appiagyei to Asokwa NPP delegates: It’s time to come together and “break the 8”

The incumbent MP for Asokwa clinched victory with 486 votes defeating her male opponents, Edmund Kyei and Francis Nana Yaw Boakye who garnered 229 and 163 votes respectively

Member of Parliament for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Patricia Appiagyei has called for a united front and support after winning the just-ended New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

The lawmaker said it is an important step to achieve the much-talked-about campaign to ‘break the eight’ by the NPP.

Appiagyei clinched victory with 486 votes defeating her male opponents, Edmund Kyei and Francis Nana Yaw Boakye who garnered 229 and 163 votes respectively.

In her post-election speech, the former deputy environment minister rallied party members, aggrieved delegates, and other sympathisers preaching the message of unity and togetherness.

“I believe that winning in the parliamentary elections will not only unify the New Patriotic Party supporters in Asokwa but also contribute to securing more votes for the NPP in the upcoming 2024 general elections, ultimately supporting the party’s aim to ‘break the 8’ with Dr Mahamadu Bawumia,” she stated.

She also expressed gratitude to her supporters, including her campaign team and competitors alike. She also looks forward to collaborating with them to improve the lives of the people she represents in parliament.

“I represent womanhood and my goal is to advance gender equality in our country, a cause I’ve championed throughout my political career. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to continue promoting gender equality as I represent the constituency in parliament”, she stated.

The 27 January election saw at least eight lawmakers suffer defeat in the Ashanti Region. It is the party’s last internal election as it prepares to face the main opposition NDC ahead of the 2024 polls.
