PHOTOS: Accra Zongo Lane fire fully extinguished after seven days, says GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said eight shops, four warehouses and 12 residential rooms were destroyed

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully extinguished the massive fire at Zongo Lane, Accra, after a week-long effort.
The fire, which began on 1 September 2024, engulfed shops and warehouses filled with home appliances, mattresses, plastics and leather materials, making it difficult to control.
In a statement of Facebook, the GNFS said despite numerous challenges, including locked shops and warehouses, acrid smoke, intense heat, and collapsing structures, firefighters confined the blaze and prevented it from further spread.

“Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities occurred. The area has been secured, and building experts will assess the damage and advice on needed and further action,” the statement added.
