The police have arrested seven people in connection with violent clashes leading to the death of one person in Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
A preliminary investigation has established that the suspects, Misere Adebo, Kwaku Atinka, Kabore Asata, Bisa Kwabena, Nana Bruce, Gideon Adjei, and Kwame Afriyie, in the company of others, clashed with an opposing faction during a traditional festival in Nkwanta.
Five other people also sustained gunshot wounds and a number of houses were set ablaze.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nkwanta Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
Speaking to Asaase News, DSP John Nchor at the public affairs office of the Oti regional police command said, suspects are currently in custody, assisting the investigation, while efforts are underway to get other suspects arrested to face justice.
Calm has since been restored at Nkwanta.
Meanwhile, the victims are still recovering, whiles one has been transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Some of the residents who fled the community due to the fear of losing their lives are yet to return to the community after police restored calm.
