Quincy Jones is my mentor, says Zapp Mallet

Quincy Jones is a legendary American record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger and film/television producer, famously known for producing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” albums

The award-winning recording engineer and record producer Emmanuel Mallet, also known as Zapp Mallet, says the American record producer Quincy Jones was and is his role model in the music industry.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (10 July 2024), Mallet said he admires Jones for his ability to organise music.

“He was my role model. [I liked] his ability to organise the music. He didn’t start like that; he began as a trumpeter and he moved on. So, he has been an inspiration [to me].”

Quincy Jones is an American record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger and film/television producer.

His career spans over 70 years. He has been nominated for 80 Grammy Awards and won 28. He is famously the producer behind three of the biggest-selling albums by Michael Jackson: Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982) and Bad (1987). He also worked with Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra.

Jones received a Grammy Legend Award in 1992.
