Rose Yeboah soars to new heights, secures Olympic spot

Yeboah, 22, cleared a height of 1.97m, shattering her own national record of 1.94m set at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu

Ghanaian high jumper Rose Yeboah has rewritten the record books, claiming both a national title and Olympic qualification in a stellar performance at the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Yeboah, 22, cleared a height of 1.97m, shattering her own national record of 1.94m set at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu.

This impressive jump not only secured her victory but also resulted in a tie for first place alongside Cyprus’ Elena Kulichenko. Nigerian athlete Temitope Simbiat Adeshina finished a close third.

This triumph marks a historic moment for Ghanaian athletics. Yeboah becomes the first woman from the nation to clinch an NCAA Division I national title, further solidifying her position as a rising star.

Her success doesn’t end there. Yeboah also joins Ghana’s qualified men’s 4x100m relay team, securing their spot at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This will be Yeboah’s Olympic debut, and with her current form, she is sure to be a strong contender.

2024 has been a golden year for Yeboah. She has dominated the high jump scene, securing podium finishes in nine out of ten competitions, including a gold medal at the 13th African Games held in Accra.
