SA parliament begins probe into EFF’s SONA disruption
The EFF, a political party in South Africa, will undergo hearings today, the 20th of November following an incident where their MPs stormed the Cape Town City Hall during President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of the Nation address.
The hearings into the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs who stormed the stage during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Joint State of the Nation Address (SONA) are expected to start today.
The hearings on the disruption of the EFF are expected to start today and to be conducted by the Powers and Privileges Committee of Parliament.
The committee will investigate whether EFF MPs breached parliamentary privileges by interrupting the President’s annual address.
Throughout the year, the EFF has been vocal about issues in society including but not limited to the ongoing crisis with Israel and Hamas, South Africa’s economic crisis and criticizing other African leaders mainly through their leader Julius Malema.
The disruption of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address was due to the Phala Phala farm case which the EFF believed to have been wrongly exonerated and took the South African Reserve Bank report under judicial review.
