Samia Nkrumah meets Egyptian President to discuss cultural exchange and regional stability

President Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to establishing a culture of peace for a more stable and secure future

Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Tuesday (21 May) at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, Egypt.

As a member of the board of trustees of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a renowned library and cultural centre, Nkrumah discussed the importance of cultural exchange and knowledge sharing with President Al-Sisi.

The meeting emphasised the library’s role in promoting dialogue between civilisations and strengthening understanding among peoples. President Al-Sisi highlighted the need for innovative ideas, scientific and cultural development, and creativity among youth to prepare them for future responsibilities.

He emphasised the state’s keenness to ensure that the library provides innovative ideas and activities, deepens scientific and cultural interests among the youth, and practically contributes to preparing them for future responsibilities.

Nkrumah, who is also running for the Member of Parliament seat for Jomoro in the upcoming 2024 general elections, has been involved in various cultural and political initiatives across the continent.

She has served as a member of the African Union Commission’s High-Level Committee on Libya and has been a strong advocate for African unity and development.

The discussion also touched on regional stability, with Nkrumah and the board commending Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in the region, end the war in Gaza, and provide humanitarian aid.

President Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to establishing a culture of peace for a more stable and secure future. He stressed that the establishment of a culture of peace is an essential element for a more stable and secure future for the region and the world at large.
