Police arrest 13 people in Central Region for disrupting voter registration

A joint effort between the Ajumako Police Command and counterparts in Mankessim led to the arrest of the suspects

Police in the Central Region have arrested 13 people believed to be behind violent activities in Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam in the Central Region.

According to the police, the well-built men allegedly disrupted the voter registration process at centres in the constituency. The police then arrested them at a hideout in the Mfantseman District.

A joint effort between the Ajumako Police Command and their counterparts in Mankessim led to the arrest of the suspects.

Items including mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects during their arrest. They have since been sent to the Central Regional Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Confirming the arrest to Asaase Radio, DSP Emmanuel Sabaliko, the Ajumako police commander, said: “They were arrested in a certain hotel and they said somebody brought them there. Immediately they were arrested we asked the team to send them to Cape Coast because there had been an earlier complaint.

“If you are not in agreement with someone, you have to pick a form and challenge but not go to the registration centres to foment trouble.”

He said police in the region are ready and will arrest anyone who visits the registration centres to cause problems.

DSP Sabaliko said, “Ajumako has always been peaceful but few people want to cause problems. I don’t know if it’s because of the arrest: the place has been very calm.”
