The Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has asked the police to investigate issues of false publications about celebrities in Ghana.

Shatta Wale said he has been described as the most disrespectful and rude artiste in the country because of fabrications spewed about him by bloggers.

He said this while addressing the media after a closed-door meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, on 10 November at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

The IGP met with some personalities from the creative arts industry to discuss how they can work together to foster a cordial relationship between the police and celebrities.

“It is false publications that have made Shatta Wale that ‘demonic’, rude and disrespectful artiste and brand … most of the bloggers are really giving us problems, especially me, because people meet me and think I am rude and don’t respect,” the musician said.

Police to provide security for celebrities

Meanwhile, the director general of public affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kwesi Ofori, also speaking to reporters after the meeting, disclosed that the police will provide special security to leaders of the creative arts industry for public events.

“At the end of the day, we concluded that the police will provide them with a special security arrangement [for] public events and make sure that we protect the captains and leaders of industry to ensure that they contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of this country,” ACP Ofori said.

The chairman of the Film Classification Committee, Socrate Safo, for his part, also advised that “as business people, and as individuals, we need not … be united as friends but we must have a common goal”.

“If we all have a common goal, then we can achieve a lot. We may be enemies but once we have a common goal, and we know that we have a unity of purpose, I think we are home and dry.”

Among the other celebrities present at the meeting were Samini, DKB, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Afia Schwarzenegger, A-Plus and the Ghanaian actress Pascaline Edwards.
