Stabbing of O’Reilly SHS student: Suspect to face court today

According to eyewitnesses, including a cousin of the deceased, an argument escalated into a physical fight, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim three times in the chest

The trial of a final-year visual arts student at O’Reilly Senior High School, who allegedly stabbed a fellow student to death during an altercation, is set to begin on Wednesday (4 September).

The suspect, identified as Godwin, was arrested on 2 September, following the tragic incident that took place on the school’s premises.

Details are sketchy as to what sparked the altercation leading to a fatal confrontation between Godwin and his colleague.

According to eyewitnesses, including a cousin of the deceased, the argument escalated into a physical fight, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim three times in the chest.

Speaking on the Big Bulletin on Asaase 99.5, Tuesday (3 September), an uncle of the deceased, Frank Adei, confirmed the arrest of Godwin and the launch of a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We came to the police station to come and enquire whether what we was circulating was true, so the commander at the police station said the boy was arrested yesterday and they are preparing him for court tomorrow,” Adjei said

“Well, you know, he was in the school with the cousin. And the guy told her to go and tell her brother that if her brother doesn’t take care, his blood will flow,” he added.

He also alleged that the teachers were unresponsive during the incident.

“They were right in front of the teacher. They [teachers] were looking at what was happening. None of the teachers made any attempt to, at least, convey the boy from the train to the hospital. It was one of the trains that came out to come and carry the boy.”
