Yapei Presby Junior High School has received an ICT laboratory centre to help students gain practice experience in the use of computers.
The ICT centre which was handed over to the school this week was donated by the head of operations and acting chief operating officer of GOIL PLC, Ing. Denis N K Amui, an old student.
The ICT laboratory centre furnished with computers is expected to meet the technological needs of the pupils in the Yapei area.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Ing. Amui said, “I felt that the school needed to improve its academic performance hence the decision to come in and support the school.”
“As an old student, I was motivated to help. There are a lot of potentials here so I thought it wise that we need to come and give to Yapei so that the students will grow up to be like us.”
He added that the Yapei community has offered him great knowledge of culture worthy of emulation.
The initiative to support the school started in 2021 dubbed “Giving back to Yapei project”.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by Prof Patience Abor, lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, the headmaster of the Yapei Presby JHS, students and other stakeholders.
The acting COO of GOIL also donated a motorbike and GHC2000 worth of fuel coupons to Yakubu Issah, the first headmaster of the Yapei Presby JHS.
Ing. Amui further pledged to continue to support the Yapei community in diverse ways.
