Target Wide Foundation holds Gala to promote road safety among okada riders

The event was held at Elwak Park, Accra to help bring all motor riders together in one umbrella to help promote peace and stability among them on Saturday

Target Wide Foundation in collaboration with Ghana Road Safety, Street Sense, and Okada Riders Union organized a sporting gala to sensitize their members on road safety and preach unity among their members.

The event was held at Elwak Park, Accra to help bring all motor riders together in one umbrella to help promote peace and stability among them on Saturday.

There were football games, ludu and other games to mark the events.

East Legon riders lost to Kasoa riders by one goal to nil.

Ashalabote lost 1-3 to Oyibi riders on penalties and Agbogloshie riders won 2-0 against Yamaha.

The chief executive officer of Target Wide Foundation, Joana Frances Adda, advised motor riders to be extra careful when plying the road and to ensure they have all necessary documents to prevent encounters with the police.

Adda acknowledged that it has been a challenge for okada riders to legalise their operations and expressed her desire for them to be legalised, stating, “’I will be very happy if their operation is legalised because I always say that no government can employ everybody.”

“There will be state institutions and the private sector. The private sector also contributes, and that is where the motor rider association comes in.”

She further encouraged them to conduct themselves in a manner that would gain government recognition, noting the efforts made by the government, including sensitisation programmes by the police, the Road Safety Authority and the MTTD, to assist in their legalisation process.
