Ghana’s hiplife pioneer Reginald Yaw Asante Ossei, popularly known as Reggie Rockstone has said the success of Afrobeats will pave the way for other African music genres.
Speaking on the Between Hours Show with Naa Ashorkor, the “Godfather of hiplife” said, “Afrobeat was part of the plan from the very inception of hiplife, that African music will go out there.”
“The story of Afrobeats will always bring us into the light. So it’s a good move because they [Nigerians] are our cousins; if it goes well for them, it will pave the way for us too.”
According to him, his dream has always been to see African music accepted on international platforms.
“I am so blessed to even be alive to witness this happen. My father, who invested in this, didn’t even live to see it happen, but he predicted it. So here I am today, healthy, and I can sit back and watch it all happen.”
He added: “But Ghana has to position herself so we can sit at the table because it’s moving at a pace that’s really fast. So some of our pettiness, we need to eliminate to get a seat at the table.”
