The Caroline Sampson Journey: “Caroline has been a good child”
Caroline Sampson is currently the host of Café995 on Asaase Radio, weekdays from 10am to 12 noon
After over a decade in the media industry, the latest crowned Media Personality of the Year at the Women’s Choice Awards 2021 and Best Female Events MC at the Ghana Events Awards 2021 – Caroline Sampson – sat down on Sunday (28 November) with the host of Asaase Radio’s Candid Voice, Benjamin Offei-Addo, to discuss her journey so far and the road ahead.
“Caro has been a good child and still is. Even if I came to this Earth a thousand times, I would still want Caroline as my daughter,” said Auntie Araba, Sampson’s biological mother, who called in during the show on Sunday.
Sampson was born on 2 August 1984 in Tema, Ghana. She is a broadcast journalist, radio personality and TV personality.
She completed Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School. She was also an executive for the Writers, Drama and Debaters’ Club (WDDC) and GUNSA in the 2002 academic year. She had her tertiary education at the African University College of Communications (AUCC).
Caroline launched her radio career with Atlantis Radio, hosting two drive-time shows.
Albert Nii Ayi Tagoe, a digital and social media specialist with GCB Bank Ltd, also called in to the show. He said Caroline is a very ambitious person, works extremely hard and is into starting new businesses.
Her conscientiousness is second to none, he said.
Currently, Caroline has a rental company, also has an apartment running on rentals, and had a food business she began running during COVID.
“I am even still thinking of a lot more to do,” Sampson told Offei-Addo, the Candid Voice host. “Currently, the way Accra is set up, you can’t just sit there and be a fine girl and not do anything. Personally, everything that I have touched has worked.”
She said the rest of the year is going to be interesting and challenging for her, because she has a new project coming up in December.
Louisa, Caroline’s elder sister, also called during the show. Her comment: “Caroline has always been hard working, always focused on family and her son, Jayden.”
Timeline
Caroline’s career began in 2005 as a contestant in the third edition of the TV reality show Miss Malaika Ghana, where she made it through to the final ten contestants.
However, she got her first break in television when she hosted the game show U-Win Game, which aired on GTV, the Ghanaian national broadcaster.
Later, she hosted Hitz Video, a weekly programme showing music clips that aired on the TV3 Ghana network. While working with GTV, Sampson also began working in radio on Atlantis in Accra. She hosted two daily drive-time shows, Continuous Drive and Mellow Cruise.
She later joined Citi FM where she hosted three daily shows: Room 973, Rhythms in the Citi and Citi Countdown. After two years with Citi, Sampson joined YFM Ghana as a presenter for the weekly show Shout on Y.
In 2009, she moved to Global Media Alliance, the parent company of ETV and YFM Ghana, and hosted E on E, a daily entertainment show on ETV Ghana.
Caroline Sampson won Best Presenter of the Year in 2009 at the Stars Integration of Culture of Africa, held in Cotonou, Benin. In 2019, she was named Best Female Radio Personality during the third edition of the Ghana Entertainment Awards USA.
She also received the 4th XWAC-Africa Award of Honour for Media Excellence that same year.
In 2017, Caroline and the Ghanaian rapper Kofi Kinaata acted as brand ambassadors for the beverage company Guinness Ghana. She was also a brand ambassador for Woodin (the fabric manufacturer and retailer) and also the face of Castle Milk Stout in 2014.
Caroline is a social media influencer who has endorsed brands such as Zeepay, Huawei and World Remit. She has also worked with Kwesé Sports as a host of the station’s breakfast show and presented the Sports Arena programme on the same channel.
Today, in 2021, Caroline Sampson entertains listeners on Asaase Radio Café995 on weekdays from 10am to 12 noon.
