The capacity-building workshop was aimed at empowering adolescent girls to stay in school, until after senior high school

The Rebecca Foundation organised a capacity-building workshop on Tuesday (6 August) to train 30 girl child coordinators in the Greater Accra region on gender-based violence in schools.

The training focused on adolescent sexual reproductive health rights, and resource mobilisation.

ACP Mercy Wilson Brown took participants through training to enhance their skills in Gender mainstreaming, identifying sexually Related Gender-based violence, calling it out, and taking action to stop it and punish perpetrators. She called for Girl Child Coordinators to be alert when picking up cases of Gender-based violence.

Andrew Sackey provided insights into resource mobilisation by building the capacity of participants to look for resources to enhance their work.

Madam Lily Rene Coufie, a public health nurse, also underscored the need for improved Adolescent Sexual Health Rights and access to information and services.

The Foundation hopes that, at the end of the day, these trained coordinators, will also pass on the knowledge acquired from the training, to their colleagues to support the advancement of gender equity.
