These are the 3 busiest domestic routes in Africa


Three African routes have been ranked among the 10 busiest domestic routes in the Middle East and Africa by air travel data provider, OAG.

The domestic routes joined the list of growing air travel at an impressive rate around the world and as veritable highways for traffic in the sky.

In its 2019 busiest routes released in March, OAG presents data and analysis of the world’s busiest routes by the number of flights for the period March 2018 – February 2019.

The busiest routes in Africa include:

South Africa – Cape Town, South Africa (CPT) to Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB)

South Africa – Durban, South Africa (DUR) to Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB)

Nigeria – Abuja (ABV) to Lagos (LOS)

Others on the top 10 busiest cities are in the Middle East:

  1. Saudi Arabia – Abha Saudi Arabia (AHB) to Riyadh Saudi Arabia (RUH)
  2. Saudi Arabia – Dammam Saudi Arabia (DMM) to Jeddah Saudi Arabia (JED)
  3. Saudi Arabia – Abha Saudi Arabia (AHB) to Jeddah Saudi Arabia (JED)
  4. Saudi Arabia – Dammam Saudi Arabia (DMM) to Riyadh Saudi Arabia (RUH)
  5. Saudi Arabia – Iran – Shiraz, Iran (SYZ) to Tehran, Iran (all airports).
  6. Saudi Arabia – Jeddah Saudi Arabia (JED) to Riyadh Saudi Arabia (RUH)
