Tia Mahama vows to secure Walewale seat for NPP

Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama has thanked the incumbent MP, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, for stepping aside and allowing the NPP to resolve the impasse in Walewale

Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama has expressed his gratitude following his confirmation by the national executive committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Walewale in the North East Region.

Dr Mahama’s confirmation comes after disputed parliamentary primaries on 27 January 2024, with a subsequent rerun on 9 September which ended inconclusively.

In a statement, he thanked the incumbent MP, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, for standing aside and allowing the party to resolve the impasse.

He praised her decision, calling it a move for the “greater good of the New Patriotic Party, peace and unity”.

Dr Mahama also commended the leadership of the NPP, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia and the NEC, for their role in resolving the matter and ensuring that Walewale now has an NPP candidate for the 7 December parliamentary election.

“To my supporters and sympathisers, you have been incredible. However, it is not yet time to rejoice. Let us roll up our sleeves and work hard to retain the seat,” he urged.

He further committed to reconciling any differences between himself and the incumbent MP, emphasising that the elections in December would be won through a collective effort.

“The goal is not just to be the parliamentary candidate but to protect the legacy of our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and past and current MPs,” he said.
