Tokyo Olympics: Joseph Amoah qualifies for mens 200m semi-final
The 24 year old Ghanaian got off to a flying start in Tuesday morning’s event and crossed the finish line with a time of 20.35 seconds
Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 200m event at the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo.
Amoah, lived up to expectations in Heat 7 of the half-lap event by finishing third among his competitors.
The 24 year old got off to a flying start in Tuesday morning’s event and crossed the finish line with a time of 20.35 seconds.
Samuel Takyi advances to quarter-finals spot in boxing
Last week Ghana’s Samuel Takyi secured progress to the quarter-finals of the men’s 52-57 kilogram featherweight boxing on Wednesday morning.
Takyi, 20, dominated his opponent throughout the five rounds of the bout to leave no doubt in the mind of the judges to declare him the unanimous winner.
His opponent, Juan Carlos Caicedo Pachito of Ecuador, came back stronger in the second round of the fight and managed to score 4/5 from the judges.
Takyi becomes the second Ghanaian boxer to advance to the next round after the captain of the Black Bombers, Sulemanu Tetteh, qualified to the Round 4 stage two days ago.
