Total family health organisation launches ebony condom

A non profit social marketing organisation Total Family Health Organisation has officially launched its contraceptive product called ebony condom on Friday (28 October).

The product is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The executive director of Total Family Health Organisation and brand owner of ebony condoms, Joseph Addo-Yobo, said the product is for family planning, preventing sexually transmitted infections and to give pleasure.

“The general public should expect quality, value for money pleasurable condom that has a feminine appeal and it’s a condom that is tried and tested,” he said.

“It is manufactured by the world’s largest manufacturer of condoms, certified and approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and can be used in Ghana to serve the purpose of preventing sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies,” he said.

For her part, a representative from the Ghana Health Service Claudette Ahliba Diogo said: “Condoms are actually seen as part of our method to prevent any form of unintended pregnancies, as well as, prevent any form of STIs or HIV/Aids. So today, when we have ebony in our midst, we are sure that the method ways is enlarged.”

The team lead of USAID Elizabeth Williams also charged the media to use their platforms to educate people on the need to use contraceptives to reduce the increasing number of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

“I know that the promotion of safe sex does not make headlines but we hope that today’s event will ignite you the press to spread the word on the use of condoms to avoid unwanted pregnancies, and for safe protected sex to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.”

With the tagline, “Ghana’s most pleasurable condom,” ebony condom has a feminine appeal, which comes in four kinds – vanilla, strawberry peppermint and chocolate flavours.

The event also saw energetic live performances from highlife singer Kwabena Kwabena, Keche and Maya Blu.
