UFP flagbearer “Gyataba” endorses Bawumia, withdraws presidential bid
At a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday (18 September), the UFP leader highlighted the party’s alignment with Dr Bawumia's vision and policy agenda for Ghana's development.
The flagbearer of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng has announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, throwing his support behind Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday (18 September), the UFP leader highlighted its alignment with Dr Bawumia’s vision and policy agenda for Ghana’s development.
“We have deeply considered matters of national interest. After weeks of intensive deliberations, we have reached a clear conviction that the vision and development plan presented by Dr Bawumia and the NPP align with ours. We are witnesses to the massive development of infrastructure and the positive impact on lives,” he explained.
“Gyataba”, as he is affectionately called urged other political parties to act in the best interest of the nation by promoting peace and development.
“We wish to urge all other political persuasions to consider reviewing their agenda and take actions that will promote peace rather than embarking on violent and disruptive actions,” he stated.
The UFP leader made headlines in 2020 when he sued the Electoral Commission (EC) at the high court over his disqualification from the presidential race.
He sought an order of certiorari to quash the EC’s decision as well as an order of prohibition to restrain the EC from proceeding with the elections without him.
The case was however dismissed.
