University of Ghana to host 2024 Africa Basketball Festival

UG to host Africa Basketball Festival 2024, blending sport, fashion, and culture in a celebration of unity and youth empowerment

The University of Ghana (UG) has been selected to host the fourth edition of the Africa Basketball Festival (ABF), taking place from 24-27 October 2024.

This year’s event will bring together ten African nations for a showcase of top-tier basketball talent.

In addition to the sporting competition, the festival will feature 15 fashion brands, live music performances, and cultural activities, creating a dynamic four-day celebration of sports, style, and culture.

The ABF aims to foster connections among players, coaches, and fans, promoting collaboration, sportsmanship, and cultural exchange on a global scale.

UG’s Director of the Sports Directorate, Austin Luguterah, expressed the university’s pride in being chosen as the host venue.

“The University of Ghana is honoured to serve as the host for the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival,” he said. “Hosting the Africa Basketball Festival aligns with our vision to position the university as a leader in both academic and extracurricular excellence. We look forward to welcoming athletes and fans from the ten (10) participating countries to our campus.”

President of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA), Ato Van Ess, also highlighted UG’s suitability as a host.

“The University of Ghana is an ideal venue for the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival. Its great and accessible facilities and commitment to youth development align with our vision to promote basketball as a unifying force in Ghana and across the continent.”

With thousands of spectators expected, the 2024 ABF promises to be a highlight of the year. The event is set to blend sport with fashion and music while also providing opportunities for youth empowerment, talent discovery, and international collaborations in sports and fashion.
