The Upper East Region has lost its Chief Imam, Shiekk Tahir.
He reportedly died today (19 February 2022) at the Regional hospital in Bolgatanga.
Sheikh Tahir became the regional chief imam after the passing of Alhaji Adam Yussif, who held the position before his demise on 4 October 2021.
Sheikh Tahir Saeed was also the national chairman of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana.
The circumstances of Sheikh Tahir’s death are still unknown.
The Muslim fraternity in the region since the news of Sheikh Tahir’s death broke, have described it as worrying, with many going on the popular social media platform, Facebook to eulogize him.
The Islamic clergy in the region as at the time of filing this report officially announced his death.
Sheikh Tahir in his days on earth was an advocate of peace and development.
He used his maiden conference of Imams and Islamic leaders in the region to strongly call for peace in feuding areas such as Bawku and Doba and Kandiga.
Sheikh Tahir was also a leader who loved to see the development of the Muslim communities in the region – a passion he highlighted at his maiden conference.
