VIDEO: Black Stars can win World Cup, says Mahama

John Mahama/Black Stars

The former president John Mahama is optimistic that the Black Stars have the quality it takes to win the World Cup trophy for Ghana.

Mahama wants Ghanaians to rally behind the team to ensure victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which starts on Sunday (20 November).

“We have a rich history at the World Cup where we have held the world spellbound with our unique brand of football,” Mahama wrote on Facebook.

“Now the time has come to stake a claim to the World Cup trophy itself and I believe our Black Stars have what it takes to go all the way,” he said.

Black Stars beat Switzerland

On Thursday (17 November), Ghana beat Switzerland 2-0 in an international friendly thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.

Both goals came in the second half of the game.

Mohammed Salisu hit the back of the net in the 70th minute, Antoine Semenyo, four minutes later in the 74th minute made it two for Ghana.

Ghana made four substitutions in the second half and played without Thomas Partey and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus.

The Black Stars will face Portugal in the first game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Thursday 24 November.
