Voter registration exercise: Two Togolese arrested in Buem

Jasikan Municipal police command nabbed two Togolese who attempted to register in the ongoing limited voter registration in Buem

The Jasikan Municipal Police Command arrested two alleged Togolese after they attempted to register in the ongoing voter registration exercises.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday, 19 May 2024 around 4pm .

The suspects were allegedly brought into the country by executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to partake in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Speaking with Asaase News, Felix Nana Yaw Ade, the Oti Regional organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stated that he received information from some party members that led to the arrest.

According to him, the individuals were part of a larger group brought in by NDC constituency executives.

According to an eyewitness, the suspects were among the first group of several people, with the rest fleeing when security arrived.

The Oti regional communication officer of the NDC, Mobarak Diplpmatic, has refused to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, the two suspects are currently in police custody at the Jasikan Divisional Police Command, assisting investigations.

The incident has raised concerns and panic among residents of the area.
