Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the incumbent MP for the Walewale in the North East Region, has appealed to her supporters to remain calm and united so as to ensure the victory of the New Patriotic Party in both the parliamentary and presidential elections on 7 December 2024.
Her plea comes after she withdrew from the Walewale parliamentary primary election rerun, where she was running against Dr Tia Abdul Kabiru Mahama, technical advisor in the Office of the Vice-President.
In an interview with Asaase News at her residence in Walewale, Hajia Lariba said she is stepping down to promote peace, love and unity within the party in the constituency.
“I am doing this for the sake of unity, peace and love for the constituency, and I also want to urge the president and the vice-president that I am doing it for their sake,” she said.
She emphasised her desire not to compromise Vice-President Bawumia’s presidential ambitions.
Grateful
The MP also expressed gratitude to her supporters for their firm support and urged them to remain calm and continue backing the NPP in Walewale.
“I want to thank each and every one of you for always standing by me and always supporting me,” she said.
“I am very happy and I want to encourage each and every one of you to take peace as a stepping stone and let us all come together to fight and win this seat [Walewale] for Ghana.”
Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu became the MP for Walewale on 7 January 2021 after defeating the then NDC candidate, Abdallah Abubakari, in the 2020 general election.
