Walewale residents gather to pray for peaceful election

The dedication ceremony took place on Saturday (3 August) with prayers for violent-free elections as the country prepares for the December 7th general elections

Hundreds of Christians, Muslims, traditional authorities, and government officials, joined the Assemblies of God Church (Ark of Salvation) in Walewale in West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, to pray for peaceful elections in 2024 after dedicating the newly constructed church to God.

The dedication ceremony took place on Saturday (3 August) with prayers for violent-free elections as the country prepares for the December 7th general elections.

In an interview with Asaase News, the head pastor of the church, Pastor Ibrahim Sebiyam, emphasised the need for peace and urged political parties, especially presidential candidates and their campaigners, to focus on policy directions and issues.

“Peace is necessary. So in this election year, I expect political parties to be decorum in their speech. They should present issues.”

“So I will plead with political parties especially, the presidential and their campaigners or foot-soldiers that they should speak to issues [and] come out with policy directions,” the head pastor of the Church admonished.

Pastor Ibrahim also stressed the importance of respecting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) independence.

“Let’s also respect the EC and let the EC do the needful to the right thing without having fear or without having to favor a particular party. We need peace [in] the country. If you look at other countries where there have been wars or conflicts, the women are marginalized, people are displaced. So I think peace would [give us] a lot more benefits if all of us embraced it,” he added.

Other revered pastors and church leaders who attended the dedication and prayed peace and prosperity of the country include; Reverend Doris Hockett, North East Regional AG Superintendent, Reverend Baba Alhassan, Pastor A.L. Lambon Fant; and several others.
