Western Region: EKMA targets population immunity with five-day COVID-19 vaccination drive

This exercise, among other things, aims to promote population immunity in the municipality as a means of preventing and reducing morbidity and mortality

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Health Directorate will, from Wednesday, 26 June commence vaccination of citizens who are yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

This exercise, among other things, aims to promote population immunity in the municipality as a means of preventing and reducing morbidity and mortality.

The vaccination drive is expected to last for five days to prevent a possible surge in cases of COVID-19.

Some of the vaccines to be administered are Johnson and Johnson, for ages 18 and above.

As part of the COVID-19 vaccination, there would also be routine vaccinations for children under 5 years.

The health directorate of EKMA, in an interaction, has urged residents within the municipality to welcome health workers into their homes to give them the vaccine.

According to Edith Kissiwaa, a health promotion officer, health practitioners are doing their best to vaccinate the targeted population, however, misinformation and myths surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines have become an impediment to meeting the set target.

She is encouraging citizens who have yet to receive their dose to do so to prevent themselves from easily contracting COVID-19, as it is still present in the system.
