Western Region: Fear grips gold buying communities as robbery attacks increase

These robbery attacks have left not only residents scared but also the gold buyers and dealers

Residents of Wassa Amenfi especially the gold buying communities are living in immense fear due to recent robbery attacks targeting gold dealership firms.

Two such attacks were reported within a week, with the most recent occurring on Wednesday, 7 August 2024.

According to narrations, those that were involved in the recent robbery were six, with the youngest, a male, being around 15 years old.

These robbery attacks have left not only residents scared but also the gold buyers and dealers.

The target of these heavily armed robbers are the gold shops and dealers.

During the recent robbery case, the robbers bolted with large quantities of gold and unknown amount of money.

The community is calling on authorities to take swift action to address the situation and ensure their safety. Local police, after the last incident, deployed men to search for these robbers but no one has been arrested since.

They have, however ,assured locals of security and safety.

On hindsight, gold buyers and dealers are being advised to take extra precautions to secure their businesses and protect themselves.

The rise in robbery attacks has also led to concerns about the potential impact on the local economy, as gold trading is a significant source of income for many in the area.
