We’ve reduced expenditure on procurement of meters by 50%, says ECG boss

This follows the decision of the board of ECG to deal with local manufacturers in the procurement of meter for power consumers across the country

The managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Mahama says the company has reduced its expenditure on the procurement of meters by almost 50% in the past few months.

It follows the decision of the board of ECG to deal with local manufacturers in the procurement of meters for power consumers across the country.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (11 September), Mahama said they are currently dealing with six local firms for the supply of meters.

“… Some people say they are assembling plants. But, I call it manufacturing because nowhere in this world are you saying somebody is manufacturing something from scratch anymore. All components come from other parts.”

“And then so about six companies I can see on record have factories now that are producing meters for E C G here in Ghana, in Ghana,” he said.

“These companies, what they do is when they bring these meters in, they install the meters where they’re farming our contractors. The next revenue increment is when they get paid, this has made us reduce our expenditure on meters by almost 50%,” Mahama added.
