World’s largest on sea book fair- Logos Hope leaves shores of Accra
Logos Hope, which docked at the Tema Harbour after arriving in Ghana about a month ago, brought back Hope, help and knowledge
The largest book fair and exhibition centre, Logos Hope, leaves the shores of Accra this weekend.
Thousands of Ghanaians troop the Tema Harbour to visit the ship with a wide range of books in diverse categories as it prepares to move from Tema to Takoradi Harbour.
Logos Hope, which docked at the Tema Harbour after arriving in Ghana about a month ago, brought back Hope, help and knowledge.
It will be sailing to dock at the Takoradi Harbour as its next destination to continue to make an impact on Ghanaians from across the closest part of the nation. It will finally leave Ghana for Sierra Leone on its mission to impact the world with knowledge.
The director of the floating largest book fair, Roberto Facanha, speaking to the media, stated that “our desire goes beyond just people coming to the ship, but also to go to the communities, especially those who do not have easy access to the ship, to send hope and books to them.”
This year marks the tenth time the nation has hosted Logos Hope. Altogether, over a million people have visited the ship with families to share memorable time. The team has also shared over 1.2 million books across the country; it made its first stop in Ghana.
It is an educative time on board the ship as visitors are welcomed to experience life on a ship, witnessing, crew members (volunteers) working at various centres to serve visitors. Tourists could make requests at a fee to tour the entIre ship.
Sections within the ship include the conference and lecture compartments, where visitors are briefed ahead of their journey; the corridor to the book fair centre, where all the ranges of millions of books are displayed; the photo booth for pictures; the cafe area for snacks; and other corridors hosting images of the ship and significant items for tourists.
As part of fulfilling its mission in Ghana, Logos Hope collaborated with non-governmental organisations, schools, churches, and evangelical missions, for donations. The mission ship also embarks on community projects such as free eye screening and health talks in parts of the country.
The mission team expressed their pleasure, encountering the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo, who visited the ship during her opening ceremony in Tema in early August. Logos Hope carries about 300 volunteer crew members from about 60 different nationalities across board in fulfilling their humanitarian mission.
The ship is reported to have more than 800,000 books on board and over 5,000 book titles at discounted prices, making it possible for people from different economic profiles to benefit from their work. These include academic, children, religious, lifestyle, business and leadership books.
