The minister said about 657 other projects from GETFund and other funding sources have also been completed in the country

Ken Ofori Atta, the Finance for Minister  says the government in 2021 completed a total of 118 projects at the secondary education level.

Presenting the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government in Parliament on Wednesday (17 November 2021), Ofori-Atta said about 657 other projects from GETFund and other funding sources have also been completed while many more educational infrastructure projects are under construction.

“Mr Speaker, in 2021 we completed 118 projects made up of classrooms, dormitories, administration blocks, libraries and canteens at the secondary education level.

“The number of completed projects under the Free Senior High School Infrastructure Intervention stands at 657 out of a total of 1,119 projects from Get and other funding sources,” he pointed out.

Equity in education infrastructure

In October this year, Parliament’s Ranking Member on the Education Committee, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, called for equitable distribution of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects in schools to ensure fairness.

He said the disparities in the distribution of infrastructure projects, especially in Senior High Schools (SHS), was not the best and must be looked at again.

Speaking to the media after the Education Committee of Parliament paid a working visit to GETFund projects in the Eastern Region, he said equity in infrastructure distribution was key to accessible and quality education.
