Emirates Airlines has extended the initial 48-hour ban for flights from Accra to Dubai indefinitely.

“Emirates flight suspension from Accra to Dubai effective 27 December 2021, is now extended until further notice,” the airline said in its urgent broadcast sent to trade partners on Tuesday 28 December 2021, reports Aviationghana.com.

The airline, however, said Dubai to Accra flights will, however, continue for passengers holding confirmed bookings and meeting the entry requirements for Accra.

“Affected customers do not need to call us immediately for rebooking. Customers can simply hold on to their Emirates ticket and when flights resume, get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans,” Emirates said.

“Emirates regrets any inconvenience caused. In order to receive the latest updates on their flights, customers are also advised to ensure that their contact details are updated by visiting Manage Your Booking.”

The carriage of passengers to and from Abidjan has also been suspended.

The suspension of flights, AviationGhana sources say, is linked to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded on outbound flights arriving in Dubai from Accra and Abidjan.

Ghana has now entered its fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic with active cases hovering around 8,554.
